Description of the webinar content:
The interplay between language and ecology within the context of AI evolution is both intricate and vital. Language acts as the foundation of communication, shaping how humans and machines interact. In marketing and beyond, communication is inherently tied to language, serving as a tool to influence, connect, and persuade. However, as AI increasingly becomes a linguistic actor, generating and interpreting language autonomously, the ethics of these languages—how they are structured, used, and understood—becomes a pressing concern.

From an ecological perspective, language is not merely a neutral tool but a dynamic system embedded within cultural, social, and environmental contexts. AI, with its capacity to process and replicate human language, risks perpetuating biases or introducing new distortions if its linguistic frameworks are not ethically designed. Just as ecosystems are sensitive to external disruptions, the linguistic ecosystem of AI evolves in response to the data it consumes. Inadequate representation, biased corpora, or manipulative language use could destabilize this ecosystem, creating ripple effects across industries reliant on ethical communication, such as marketing.

Invited Speaker: Jorge Vallego AI and Ecolinguistics Researcher

Jorge Vallego is a Data Science and AI Consultant with decades of experience in the Computer Science industry. Alongside his consultancy work, Jorge is an active investigator in the evolving field of ecolinguistics, focusing on its practical applications in the development of Large Language Models. He is committed to integrating ecolinguistic principles into AI systems, aligning technology with ecological and ethical values.
He is the technical leader of the H4rmony Project and the author of  its foundational paper, Ecolinguistics and AI: Integrating eco-awareness in natural language processing, that  proposes ways to bridge the gap between ecolinguistics and AI development. Jorge also serves as a subject representative for the International Ecolinguistics Association, specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Language Models.
With a deep interest in the ethical challenges surrounding AI-generated language, Jorge’s research explores its societal implications, particularly in ecological discourse and narratives. Through his initiatives, he aims to position AI systems as ecocentric agents of sustainability and responsible communication.
